ICL 2019 Highlights

Gaurav Wadhwa

Gaurav Wadhwa is the co-founder and CEO of India’s leading pop culture-driven music label, Big Bang Music (BGBNG Music). Built with a fresh Gen Z team, he is rewriting how hits are made by combining music with Bollywood, marketing, gaming, and more.
When Gaurav started BGBNG Music, the company’s aim was to bridge the gap between mainstream Bollywood music and the then rapidly emerging Indian hip-hop space. The early iteration of BGBGNG Music saw the label signing up hip-hop rapper Naezy (on whom the film Gully Boy is based) and playback singer Shalmali Kholgade to bridge these worlds.
During the pandemic, with the complete disappearance of live shows, Gaurav turned BGBNG Music more nimble through alternative models, making it one of few companies still producing music and videos.
Under his leadership, huge deals were cracked which include the launch of Triller after partnering with Instagram for the project Born on Instagram, the UNBollywood Approach which provided alternative musical careers for Bollywood stars including Tiger Shroff and Sonakshi Sinha.
Simultaneously, the label’s focus started to shift towards promoting up and coming indie artists through the Big Indie Bang IP. The new initiative saw Big Bang Music release ten songs with ten different indie artists over a year, seeing the viral sensation Khwaab come from it.
Gaurav Wadhwa has always had his hand on the pulse of the nation’s youth. Through pioneering collaborations with Indian influencers and Bollywood stars, chartbusters like Chup, Jhoome, and Kinni Kinni Vaari were born. Big Bang Music has also been able to turn a brand anthem into a viral sensation. Kill Chori, a Diwali campaign for the mobile game Garena Free Fire, featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Bhuvan Bam, trended at #1 on YouTube and earned a spot in Spotify Top 200 in India.
In 2022, Gaurav started Betting on Young Artists: Building Social Superstars, a platform to promote younger and newer artists under Big Bang 2.0.
In an illustrious career spanning over 15 years, Gaurav Wadhwa has earned many feathers in his cap, championing brands including Red Bull, PepsiCo, and MTV (Viacom Network). He was also the founding head of the Originals & Entertainment division at JioSaavn.
In his free time, Gaurav is a travel enthusiast who loves exploring different places and is always on the lookout for new talent. Through BGBNG Music, he aims to veer away from the established roles and functions of a music label and hopes to transform and disrupt India’s musical ecosystem while building future superstars.
